About Me
|
I’m a technical communicator who believes good writing is always about context — who needs it, where it lives, and what it has to do. My work spans grant writing for St. Francis House, publication editing for Quills & Pixels, and digital content strategy. This portfolio demonstrates how writing, editing, and design work together in a real professional environment.

Core Expertise
Three competencies proven in practice
01 Writing Versatility
Ability to adapt voice, register, and form across wildly different contexts — from federal grant language to Facebook captions — while maintaining clarity and purpose throughout.
02 Editorial Expertise
Systematic, professional approach to editing — from copyediting and style sheet creation to author collaboration and full editorial workflow management across a publication cycle.
03 Publication Design
Visual communication skills that bridge editorial and design — using InDesign and digital tools to create layouts and branding materials that serve the content rather than overshadow it.
Background
Where the work comes from
Hendrix College
BA — Creative Writing with a minor in Film Studies
Graduated Cum Laude with Distinction as a Murphy Scholar in Literature and Language — a competitive, merit-based program for intensive literary and language study. Received the McCuistion English Prize, awarded to an outstanding senior English major. Foundational coursework in close reading, critical analysis, and writing developed the editorial instincts that carry through all of my professional work.
University of Arkansas at Little Rock
MA Student — Professional & Technical Writing
Coursework covering technical editing, publication design, advanced style documentation, and digital communication strategy. Developed a comprehensive portfolio of real editorial and design work throughout the program. Inducted into UA Little Rock’s Phi Kappa Phi honor society chapter in recognition of academic achievement.
UAMS – University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences
Grant Writing Intern
Hands-on experience writing and editing grant proposals in a real healthcare institution. Developed skills in formal, high-stakes technical writing with complex regulatory and audience requirements.
St. Francis House
Student Grant Writer
Identified a viable funder independently, reviewed the RFP, and developed a full grant submission on behalf of St. Francis House in accordance with funder guidelines. Applied formal proposal structure, budget justification, and regulatory documentation standards to a real funding opportunity.
APAC – Arkansas Public Administration Consortium
Graduate Assistant
Managed APAC’s social media presence from strategy to execution — conducting audience and organizational analysis to inform content decisions, then producing and publishing that content through Meta Business Suite. All content was drafted in collaboration with and subject to approval from program leadership. The work required the same clarity and audience awareness as any technical document, just compressed into a different format.
Quills & Pixels – UA Little Rock Nonfiction Journal
Copyeditor & Layout Designer
Copyedited nonfiction submissions, developed and maintained editorial style sheets, and collaborated with authors. Designed full publication layouts in InDesign, making tone-respsonsive typographic decisions for each piece.
